Business Problem
- The client was spending an inordinate amount of time,
effort and money on tracking project information across three different operational
systems: financials, human resources, and a management information system. The two primary
metrics in which they needed a deeper understanding were: 1) financial costs associated
with projects and 2) the allocation of project resources. Once this information was well
understood, the client conducted trend analysis against the best and worst project
profiles for the purpose of learning from past successes and mistakes and incorporating
this knowledge into practice using continuous process improvement methodologies.
Business Solutions
- The client commissioned RJC to undertake the entirety of the
data warehouse project, from start to finish. Upon completion RJC trained client employees
on the maintenance and operation of the system. RJC utilized Microsoft’s Solution
Development Discipline to integrate the three operational systems into an Oracle data
warehouse The initial architecture was released to production and transitioned to client
personnel in June of ’97.
Technology
- Oracle DBMS for data storage.
- Cognos Impromptu was used as a front end connectivity,
ad-hoc query and enterprise reporting tool.
- Pine Cone Systems software was employed for warehouse
monitoring and optimizing.
